October 15, 2015: « The Savings Accounts Market in Europe: A Dormant Market? »
IODS and the Observatoire de l’Epargne Européenne conducted a study for the Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs (BEUC) entitled “The Savings Accounts Market in Europe: A Dormant Market ?”. The study compares interest rates offered on savings accounts across a number of countries across Europe.
In theory, investors could benefit from a truly pan-European market. But regulation, taxation and business practices limit or actually prevent these cross-border flows, meaning that savings products offered to non-residents, when they exist, are often different from those available to residents.

European savers face the challenge of dealing with measures announced and then implemented by central banks. Even before its implementation, the ECB’s asset purchase program exalted euro zone economic outlook and increased cash available for equity investment.
